Team Joseph – In Vino Speranza – May 9, 2014

Fundraiser to feature Detroit Tigers Wives

The Detroit Wine Organization and Team Joseph present “In Vino Speranza,” a charity wine tasting event on Friday, May 9 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at Lingenfelter Car Collection in Brighton, Mich. Featuring more than 150 unique cars, it is one of the largest private car collections in the nation.

Proceeds from the event benefit Team Joseph, a 501©3 non-profit organization whose mission is to fund cutting edge research to find a treatment or cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello has been an advocate for Team Joseph since meeting Joseph Penrod in 2011. Given the Tigers game schedule, Porcello is not able to participate in this year’s event. However, he is excited to have the support of many Tigers Wives who plan to attend. “Team Joseph has been inspiring to the entire Detroit Tigers family,” said Erica Scherzer, wife of Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Max Scherzer. “Rick Porcello’s generosity and dedication has motivated us all to join the team and the fight against Duchenne.”

The wine tasting event will showcase more than 70 wines from around the world, Michigan craft beers, spirits and strolling dinner, from such restaurants as Andiamo, Uptown Grille and Rojo Mexican Bistro. Guests may also participate in a silent auction, Barrel of Cheer raffle and more.

Tickets are $85 per person and can be purchased at or 248.504.1962.

About Duchenne muscular dystrophy:

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rapidly progressing degenerative genetic muscle disorder, primarily affecting young boys, which causes loss of muscle mobility and function. In fact, 99 percent of the almost 20,000 new cases each year are boys; meaning 1 boy out of every 3,500 will be diagnosed. There currently is no treatment or cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

About The Detroit Wine Organization

The DWO is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization focused on contributing to local children’s charities. We accomplish our mission by hosting events that are both educational and fun, including Wine Down Wednesdays and annual Detroit Uncorked.

About Team Joseph:

Team Joseph is a 501c3 non-profit organization with a mission to aggressively fund cutting-edge research to find a treatment or cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Formed around the fight of Joseph Penrod, Team Joseph began with a mom who wouldn’t let her son be defined by his diagnosis, and with the support of family, friends and an army of volunteers, has evolved into the movement it is today.
